Northeast Share – The Gleaning Initiative (GI), a partnership between Healthy Acadia and University of Maine Cooperative Extension, works to serve farms and food security organizations by catalyzing mutually beneficial relationships around the distribution of surplus food to those in need as a sustainable food system practice. During the project GI recovered 60,000 pounds of produce (a 33 percent increase from 2013), and distributed it to 15 food security organizations.
