Formed in 1979 as an intentional community of two families called to life and ministry together in Christ. It has grown into an ecumenical, non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to leading others into lives of Christian community and service.

Since our founding in 1979, the Society of St. Andrew has worked to fulfill the mandate of the Gospel in our lives by striving to adhere to the words of 1 John 3:18: Let us love not only in words, but in deed and in truth.

The mission of the Society of St. Andrew is to introduce people to God’s grace in Jesus Christ through meeting their hungers:

UNICEF promotes the rights and wellbeing of every child, in everything we do. Together with our partners, we work in 190 countries and territories to translate that commitment into practical action, focusing special effort on reaching the most vulnerable and excluded children, to the benefit of all children, everywhere.

In all of its work, UNICEF takes a life.cycle based approach, recognizing the particular importance of early childhood development and adolescence. UNICEF programmes focus on the most disadvantaged children, including those living in fragile contexts, those with disabilities, those who are affected by rapid urbanization and those affected by environmental degradation.

UNICEF was created with a distinct purpose in mind: to work with others to overcome the obstacles that poverty, violence, disease and discrimination place in a child’s path. We advocate for measures to give children the best start in life, because proper care at the youngest age forms the strongest foundation for a person’s future.

World’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. In emergencies, we get food to where it is needed, saving the lives of victims of war, civil conflict and natural disasters. After the cause of an emergency has passed, we use food to help communities rebuild their shattered lives. WFP is part of the United Nations system and is voluntarily funded.

Born in 1961, WFP pursues a vision of the world in which every man, woman and child has access at all times to the food needed for an active and healthy life. We work towards that vision with our sister UN agencies in Rome .. the Food and Agriculture Organization FAO.and the International Fund for Agricultural Development IFAD… as well as other government, UN and NGO partners.

On average, WFP reaches more than 80 million people with food assistance in 75 countries each year. About 11,500 people work for the organization, most of them in remote areas, directly serving the hungry poor.

Leads the fight against hunger in communities nationwide. Together with individuals, charities, businesses and government we can solve hunger.  It provides food and support to more than 12 million children each year through programs like the BackPack Program, Kids Cafe, the School Pantry Program and the Child Hunger Corps.  Here in America, there is enough food to feed every man, woman and child, yet one in six people face hunger. Feeding America fights hunger by connecting families to the resources they need to put food on the table.   It secures and provides food for families in need; operates programs that promote self-sufficiency; educates the public about hunger; and advocates for legislation that protects people from going hungry.

2014 Status Report on Hunger in Rhode Island

Rhode Island Community Foodbank

The economic recovery taking root in Rhode Island has
not reached thousands of low-income families who
rely on food programs to avoid hunger. Food insecurity
remains unacceptably high. A large portion of our population still doesn’t have reliable access to affordable, healthy food to feed their families. Poor nutrition continues to impair the health of our children and elderly.
